The employment contract is permanent (indefinite) or is concluded for a certain period of time, guaranteeing a set of social rights (guaranteed amount of monthly salary and number of working hours, social and health insurance, paid annual leave, unemployment benefit).
A civil contract is concluded for the performance of a certain task. Payment is usually made upon its successful completion. Working hours are not fixed and depend on individual preferences. This type of contract offers more limited protection for workers, but also more flexibility (e.g. – no fixed job, time, no annual leave is due).
Documents required for concluding a labour contract
- ID card;
- Educational diplomas and certificates of vocational training, if available;
- A document for medical examination by your GP, which proves that health allows you to take the job position;
- Criminal record certificate if requested

- how attitude and character on the job;
- the date of its conclusion and the date from which the employee is to start work;
- the period for which the employment contract was concluded – the contract can be both fixed-term and indefinite;
- the amount of the monthly salary and additional payment, if any;
- when and how the salary is paid;
- the amount of paid annual leave;
- the length of the working day or week;
- Period of notice to quit employment
- Period of notice for termination of the contract
Termination of the employment contract can occur in several ways:
- after the expiry of the period for which it was concluded;
- early by mutual agreement between the minister and the employer;
- by written notification from one of the parties, or,
- trace dismissal on the employee from the employer.
If this is the first employment contract of an employee in Bulgaria, the employer is obliged to issue it a work book, in which he must record the relevant circumstances.
